This story began in the summer following Mr. Smith and Mr. Pollok joining Escape. Mr. Pollok had arranged for a large group of interested IBO’s to go together to a motivational seminar at the Breslin Arena on the MSU campus, in the middle of the week, featuring the likes of Zig Zigler, Mayor Rudy Giuliani, and a speaker I knew nothing about Mr. Phil Town.
Mr. Phil town was promoting the notion that the average individual could take hold of their financial investments a do far better than any mutual fund manager or commissioned stock broker. His theory of investment came from the one and only Mr. Warren Buffett. He was a second generation deciple and fortune had smiled on him with a chance acquaintance. Their investment philosophies aligned nicely with a company by the name of Investools, who was selling their services at this particular seminar.
What I got out of Mr. Town’s speech was that he had authored a book called “Rule #1″. I bought it and over the next few months read it dissected it and by the time I had finished reading the book, his second book called “Payback Time” was ready to be released.
As happens with most of us, life got in the way and approximately 8 months have now passed and it’s April 2009. I’m flying with a Captain who starts asking question about the book that I’m reading, we talk, I have the first book with me as well and over the course of the next 6 days, he proceeds to read half of the book. Loving the common sense philosophy and straight forward steps to security analysis and self-directed investment.
In months since, I’ve seen this particular Captain from time to time and each time, he’s more excited about seeing me than the last, why I have no idea.
Now jump forward to November 2010. I just flew a long 2 day trip with him. I come to find out the he had gone home, purchased both books, both he and his wife read both. He was fortunate enough to marry into money, but these books made sense to them. They laid out a system where they could take control of their financial life and with straight forward application of a system, take charge of their financial lives. They started out with a small percentage of a lot. But the more they did, the more success they had. To the point now, they have removed all their money from the hands of “the experts” and are crushing the results that they had been experiencing.
They have since been buying and handing that particular book out to everybody they know. Most, with very luke warm reception. But they have gotten the attention of enough people, including their financial adviser, that their little group is starting it’s own financial investing club based around the system professed in these books (hmmm, sound familiar, no everyone believes in what you’re saying, a system that seems to make sense).
So the Captain and I are now flying again and I pull out this very large, awkward, beaten up book called “Rare Earths – Forbidden Cures”. Sounds pretty hokey right. He wants to talk investing and tell him, I wish I had the time to focus on that, but I’ve found something that has diverted all of my attention away from that (think that I have his attention). He already has had success with something that I’ve recommended and now I’m telling him, that something has become a higher priority on my “radar screen”.
I was able to lead with the fact that I turned 50 in February, that my wife just had a malignant breast tumor and was going through radiation treatment, the fact that my Dad was a orthopedic surgeon who knew very little about nutrition and for the most part dismissed it and as a result lived 10 years less than his father, that I had found a company who actually fought the U.S. government for the right to make health claims on their products and won, that the doctor who founded the company didn’t take a dime of compensation from the sale of the products which the company manufactured, but rather generated his income from selling informational CD, DVD and Books, while traveling 300 of 365 days a years giving free seminars, getting his message out to anybody who could get 50 people or more together.
The Captain basically kept asking question after question and I always deferred to the book and to the expert, Dr. Wallach. I told him that I had a CD with me that had changed my life and that I had an extra copy that I would give him if he would promise that he would listen to it. He did and I did (I already had helped him financially, so I knew that at least his wife would listen, because he said in his household, I had become like a Rock Star…which one, I have no idea)
As our conversation continued we talked about a ton of things from the 90 essential nutrients and beyond, each time deferring to the expert, my book and Dr. Wallach.
I had lead with the CD as you will all learn about at the training on Saturday. I then pulled out a piece of TT Chocolate and asked if he would do me a favor and give me an opinion on one of the company’s newest products. He said he didn’t really like chocolate, but he was sure that his wife would. I gave him the informational sheet, which he read, front and back, saying that he would most definitely get his wife to read and try. The conversation then moved to the Beyond Tangy Tangerine and the 90 Essential Nutrients etc. He now has that sample as well, to give to his wife.
If Phil Town made an impact on their lives, I have no doubt that Dr. Wallach will.
Here’s the bottom line. Most of you have heard about the training this weekend. Most of you were also for whatever reason unable to go on the Youngevity cruise. A lot of people hear about a great new training and think, “Yeah right, it’s the same old stuff.” I will tell you this, before, on and during that cruise there was an agreement on how to “lead” our business, how to promote it, in a way that will be uniform throughout the entire company of Youngevity down through Escape International of Youngevity. We were able to interact with upline leaders that offer you the individual IBO the ability to tap into a wealth of experience and desire to personally help you, provided you are willing to help yourself. We have doctors, financial analysis, people who are legends in the home based business industry, product formulators, corporate leaders all begging you to plug in and use them.
Get the business off of you and us them to build your business. How do you do that, become a leader.
Who do you have to lead? One person, yourself. You are the leader of your business, it’s success or failure is solely on your shoulders. Any corporate executive or senior military officer taking command does one thing first. He has to learn the business from top to bottom, regardless of what positions he’s held in the past.
There are 15 companies affiliated with Youngevity, multitudes of sub-niches within the companies, slews of products that will enhance not only your life and the life of your family, but also those of your friends and family.
The concept of leadership in Network Marketing or Direct Sales always has bothered me. Why is someone who signed up before someone else considered to be a bigger or better leader than someone else. Bottom line, they shouldn’t. Lead yourself and do what is right for your business to succeed. Find a mentor, upline, downline, crossline, whatever line. Make yourself accountable to somebody. Make sure you’re doing something each day, whether that be enrolling someone, getting more comfortable with the websites, the use of Aisle 19, NavEscape, Youngevity and it’s 14 affiliates, call your upline, call your downline, read where this company came from, where it’s going, listen to the daily radio show with Dr. Wallach, do SOMETHING.
Here’s my recommendation.
#1 – Buy the book “Rare Earths – Forbidden Cures” – start reading it. It will take you a long time to get through. It is a VERY painful read (I can only handle about 10 pages at a time). Take it with you everywhere you go. Make it visible. It will initiate more conversations from people who are poking into “your business”, just let them in. Be humble, be honest and defer. Always have a CD with you. Say something like, “I knew nothing about nutrition until I was introduced to Dr. Wallach through this CD, you may find something of interest on it, I could lend it to you……..
#2 Be a leader and lead yourself to the Training being conducted this Saturday by Mr. David Rutz and Mr. John Costino. Lead how our company is leading with Nutrition and building with the business.
There was a great statement made on the cruise and it went, “We owe our people two things, first a great opportunity, and second an example.”
Be the example if to no one else, yourself. I hope to see you all this Saturday at the home office for what I am sure will be an outstanding training.
